Another SE battle report to share with you all!

This time it’s a 6lvl King of the Hill game, Heroes vs Ulthar Invaders.

The Hero team is 4 x Lvl1s (Jade Hawk, Harrier, Skyline and Kitty Cheshire) and 1 x Lvl2 (Stone Hawk)

Image

The Ulthars are 3x Lvl1s (Gemini Y, Stinger and Gemini X) and their lvl3 warlord Aquarius

Image

The Ulthars also bring 3 lvls of Minions, so I used 3 Zzapbots (:ENG 2, :DEF 2, 1 Health, 6” Range shot), 2 Spacegoyles (:ENG 2, :DEF 2, 1 Health, 6” Range shot, Flight) and 1 Spacethrope (:STR 3, :DEF 2, 3 Health, Strike Action, 40mm base).

Image

The Ulthar deployed first and then the Heroes, with Jade Hawk pushing forward and Skyline hovering above one of the power points.

Image

Image

Image

Turn 1: Ulthar generate 14AP while the Heroes generate 11AP. Heroes win the start roll and Stone Hawk makes a move forward looking to park himself on a power spot. Gemini X orders his recently acquired robot minion to move to get a bead on the infiltrating Jade Hawk and Zzap! But she was too stealthy and all shots flew wide.

Image

Stone Hawk goes Rock Hard while Aquarius makes a move forward, ordering the Zzapbots to do better and shoot Jade Hawk properly, but again they miss!

Image

Stone Hawk, realizing the threat the Alien Warlord poses, moves and creates 2 Stoneshapes to block the Ulthar advance.

Image

As the aliens reorganize themselves, Skyline drops from the Fire Station roof to take up position on one of the power spots.

Image

Stinger slips forward and directs the Spacegoyles to fire on Stone Hawk, with one shot hitting home. First blood to the Aliens!

Image

Seeing the Gemini twins as the weak link, Jade Hawk moves to the ledge of the First National Bank, biding her time to make the leap and attack.

Image

Gemini X, oblivious to the peril above, moves to hold hands with his twin.

Image

Harrier makes her move and works in a little Charm.

Image

Gemini Y pushes up as the stoneshapes allow and creates a Fearful Presence.

Image

Jade Hawk sees an opening and launches herself at Gemini X

Only for the Scorpio fencer to do some fancy Footwork and swing the Brain Brother out of trouble, facing off against the rooftop vigilante. Stinger is hit by the crash from the falling Hero…

Image

…and also isn’t quick enough to dodge her Death Claw, leaving him clinging to consciousness!

Image

He retaliates with a Lunge of his own, cutting the Hero!

Image

Jade Hawk attempts a second Strike but Stinger Disengages!!!

Image
Image

Gemini X, wanting to return the favour, sends in the Spaceathrope but its tentacles fail to find earthling flesh.

Image

And the “Good” twin then bestowed the Solace of Neptune on the brave fencer, restoring some of his health.

Image

Kitty, who has been watching with amusement, blinks forward for a closer look, while the Spacegoyles attempt a second volley of fire at Stone Hawk to no effect.

Image

Aquarius, growing tired of the humans, unleashes a Tidal Uprising on Harrier, drenching her and the nearby Skyline, pushing them both away from the power spot.

Image

Image

Image

Kitty, who loved chasing birds as a kitten, pounces on a Spacegoyle, scratching its eyes out and leaving it writhing on the pipeline

Image

Ra’leigh turns to the insolent human that attacked his underlings and lines up a powersmash, removing the threat in a single trident swipe.

Image

Kitty, satisfied with her kill, moved in to the safe proximity of the Tank Stone Hawk and took control of the power spot at the same time.

Image

X, with limited options available, creates a Perilous Pillar near Kitty.

Image

Skyline moves back to the second power spot and makes a Staff Throw at Y but misses, hitting a stoneshape instead.

Image

Y retaliates by casting Despairing Thoughts at Skyline which makes him a little sad but with no other special effects.

End of round 1 and here’s how the cards look:

Heroes
Image

Ulthar
Image

And the Heroes gain 2 AGP for holding both power spots:

TURN 2: Ulthar generate 15AP (thanks to the Leader card ability Invaders) and the Heroes generate 9AP. The Heroes again win the starting roll with a 6 and take an extra AP as their SFX.

Image

Given their success in turn 1, Stone Hawk again creates 2 Stoneshapes but this time they’re a little harder to place to completely lock in the aliens.

Image

Ra’leigh takes it upon himself to lead the attack and unleashes another Tidal Uprising, this time targeting the smiling cat lady and the rock man, only managing to hurt the kitty-cat and shifting her off the power spot:

Image
Image
Image

Skyline, seeing that Y is unsupported, charges in and strikes him, wounding the alien.

Image

Y moves back to the comfort of his brother and holds the caped crusader in a Mind Grip, fatiguing him and making him an Easy Target from being Stunned!

Image

Moving onto the power spot, Stone Hawk attempts to go Rock Hard again but the power emanating from the spot obviously interferes with his powers and he fails.

Image

Stinger, realizing both he and the Zzapbots are out of position, drains their energy to power himself up (Slaves from the Leader card) and moves up to join the fray.
Image
Image

He then orders the Spaceathrope to attack Skyline, which the monster does vigorously, almost KOing the hero in one attack.

Image

Kitty, having finished her last bird wing, blinks in and takes out the second Spacegoyle.

Image

Aquarius moves in with a warriors cry and Powersmashes Stone Hawk, but his trident glances of stone.

Image

Skyline attempts to punch the alien monstrosity but fails to find a weak spot in the flailing tentacles.

Image

X heals Stinger back to full health.

Image

Kitty dashes to the other power spot, not wanting to face the Ulthar Warlord.

Image

Y engages his Fearful Presence again in order to protect his alien comrades.

But Harrier sees what she’s been waiting for and takes to the skies for a Fly By attack.

Image

Smashing down the Spaceathrope…

Image

…KOing Gemini X…

Image

…and just a she prepares to do the same to Y, Stinger uses his Footwark to block her, but he takes a heap of damage in the process as well!

Image
Image

Stinger then runs through the winged heroine, Lunging several times with multiple powerups to finish her, and finishing the round.

Image

Here are the cards at end of round 2:

Heroes:
Image

Ulthar:
Image

And the Heroes take another 2 AGP for a total of 4-0.

Image

TURN 3: With Gemini X down the Ulthar only generate 8AP this turn, which is the same as the Heroes. And miraculously the Heroes win their 4th Starting roll in a roll, even with Aquarius a :MND 5 vs Kitty :MND 4!!!

Stone Hawk, having grown accustomed to leading off the turn, attempts to Tomahawk Aquarius, landing a mighty blow and causing multiple damage.

Image

Stinger dances in to engage Skyline who attempts to Inertially Repulse the fencer but he misses with the kick!

Image

and pays the price as Scorpio finishes him off with a well timed lunge.

Image

Kitty smells the interesting Alien odour and decides she wants to see what’s inside the armour, blinking in to deliver a scratch, but Scorpio sees her…

Image

…and Disengages right to where Kitty just moved from.

Image

Aquarius, seeing that Scorpio has captured a point, lets loose a Tidal Uprising against Kitty and floods her back towards him.

Image
Image

Kitty laughs at the fun she’s having and Blinks straight back into Stinger, who fails his attempt to disengage…

Image

… allowing Kitty to scratch.

Image

On his last legs, Stinger moves to get away from the power spot…

Image
But the Speedy Kitty is not yet too fatigued to chase him and delivers the final nail in his earthly coffin.

Image

Gemini Y moves up while Ra’leigh realizes the power spot is open on the far side of the street and moves to capture it.

Image

The cards:

Heroes:
Image

Ulthar:
Image

End of turn 3 sees 4 models left (of 15 that started on the field) and 5AGP for the Heroes vs 1AGP to the Ulthar.

TURN 4: The Ulthar generate 8AP while the Heroes get 6AP, and the Ulthar finally win a starting roll!

Ra’leigh, happy holding the power spot, blasts Kitty with a Tidal Uprising but this time his power wanes and fails to have an impact.

Image

Kitty, seeing the little Brain Bro, dances in and Scratches him on his brain…

Image

…so he runs to the safety of his Lord Commander and engages his Fearful Presence…

Image

…and then tries a Despairing Thoughts looking for a SFX to finish her off, but no.
Image

Kitty blinks and scratches but misses!

Image

Aquarius moves in and Powersmashes but misses!!

Image

Kitty scratches Y again but misses again!!!

Image

Gemini Y moves back to take the power spot and Stone Hawk ignores everything and hangs out at his power spot.

Image

Heroes Cards:
Image

Ulthar Cards
Image

1 more AGP a piece makes it 6 vs 2 to the Heroes!

Image

TURN 5: Ulthar make 7AP and the Heroes make 6AP, Ulthar win the starting roll.

Aquarius lets loose a Powersmash that misses the smiling Cheshire…

Image

…who skips away to scratch the Brain again but misses also…

Image

…who in turn gets a second power smash from Aquarius but they must be fighting in a pile of banana skins because he misses…

Image

…and then she misses X again!!!

Image

Gemini X, having no fear of banana skins affecting his brain powers, turns on his Fearful Presence…

Image

…and then KOs Kitty with a specially effectual Despairing Thoughts!!

Image

With all of the AP used by the Ulthar that’s the end of turn 5:

Hero cards:
Image

Ulthar cards:
Image

Both sides again scoring 1AGP making it 7 vs 3.

Image

Given that the Ulthar can’t win at this stage it’s game over, no need for the 6th Turn, Heroes drive back the invasion and secure the city!

Great report and great models!

I'm curious, but what are your thoughts on the leader card that was used? Do you think it had a noticeable impact?

I have to say Baskinders these battle reports are VERY well done and enjoyable to read. They also give me a LOT of real usable data and feedback on SE rules. Please keep it up!
