The thing with Resins is, clear resin can (and a lot of the time does) develop a yellow tint over time, so when you put washes etc on them their colour changes and so do the washes (which could leave you with a Green water Seabolt) - I have a very sickly looking Gelatenous Cube from Otherworld Miniatures because of this.

By adding a stain to the Resin, even just a very pale blue one - you can avoid this. Of course some of the newer industrial grade resins DON'T yellow, my Ainsty Police Box is still clear (touch wood).

Actually, I know Andy and Ainsty pretty well - I might ask him about it.
