Sgt. Bale (Blood Watch Hero, Level 2 Mystery)

Heroes & Villains wrote:
Sergeant Richard Bale died on the mission and earned his burial place in Arlington as well as the star-spangled flag that would wrap his coffin, gun shots that would ring in the sky and the tears of his beautiful wife.
If not for the fact that he already died once for the rest of the world.
Signing the document that puts you on the Omega Occult team of the US Army equals dying. Your family receives a note that you died in an accident. You will spend the rest of your life on covert missions or deep in the underground base with 4 of your teammates who are just as burnt out of living that zombie life as you are. You will die a silent death and nobody will ever shed a tear over the life you lost in the service of your country.
Bale never talks about why he joined Omega Occult. You may deduct that many of the events of his early childhood pushed him that way. He rarely speaks about his missions while on the team unless the information is relevant to the supernatural threat that Blood Watch is currently combating.
But he will repeat the story of how he died the second time just to make you stop asking questions.
Neither Rich nor any of his teammates knows why they were being sent to the lush jungles of Cambodia. It was pretty common for them to receive briefings right after they parachuted from the stealth plane. This time it is different, the shift in the pattern sends the chills down the Bale?s spine.
The local guide hands them the envelope that contains the orders: to follow the guide, shoot the guide once at the destination and recover the thing from the lower levels of the temple. Codename Tank Red, the team?s weapon specialist exchanges the muzzle on the gun after one shot while Bale deciphers the glyphs on the ruined walls of Beng Mealea temple. Ichiro dies first as the huge chunk of the naga statue crushes his body, the blood drains into the cracks of the floor. This is the first death in 5 years. The second and third happen almost simultaneously as the floor breaks and they all fall down into the dark water below. A hiss echoes in the darkness and the water explodes with seven lashing reptilian heads of doom. Bale dodges in the last second, while Tank Red fires up the rocket boots in his battlesuit and flies for the surface through the crack in the ceiling. Two others are not that fortunate.
Rich is left all by himself with the massive beast, far more intelligent than its form would suggest. The behemoth whispers in his head: Fight me? He knows that this is the assignment beyond the usual good and evil, that more than his life is at stake.
So when the heads fly again, he waits patiently and in the last moment grabs the middle one and rides it like a cowboy on a bucking bull. The beast tries to shake him off, crush him against the wall but at no avail. Bale just waits as the six remaining heads hunt for the burdened seventh. And he just jumps from head to head and watches them kill each other until there is only one left.
Out of options, the last of Omega Occult team fires the entire clip in the gaping mouth of the dragon as the flaming breath of the beast covers him. The fire is good, it?s cleansing, it?s the pact the ancient being makes with its slayer. Rich falls to the water, his right arm burns as the dragon snakes around it, leaving a mysterious tattoo mark and thus sealing the pact.
It all would seem just a bizarre dream if not for the fact that a small flame dancing on Bale?s hand lights his way. The union with the dragon made him stronger.

Six months later Richard Bale is infiltrating the HQ of Omega Occult, a place he used to call home. He is not here to pick up his stuff, he heads straight for the commander?s office.
No robot, no soldier can stand in the way of his dragon?s fury. Bale burns his way through, the dragon on his arm seems almost alive as it spews flame on all enemies and ignites the bullets.
The journey ends fast and Richard Bale has only one question: Why?
They don?t have to go into details but villains at gunpoint always talk and talk and talk. So Bale learns all he wants and even more. Better a one man army with the ancient power of dragons rather than a team of 5 replaceable covert ops. The dragon had to choose only one, its champion. Their new occult contact, a woman of great power promises that more men will be able to fuse their bodies with ancient creatures, to promote the cause of goodness with the help of the US military. Bale could be the leader of the new hybrid Omega Occult.
The flaming bullet in the head of his ex-commander is an obvious ?no? answer to this promotion opportunity.
Bale and his dragon powers seek a refuge. He is approached by many: government agents, power-hungry tyrants, the woman that claims she knows the spirit that slumbers in him. He rejects them all and takes the offer from the mysterious V.H. and the Blood Watch team.
They all accept his grim presence because none of them doubts in his loyalty and total dedication to the cause of good. Yet if they knew about Bale?s nightmares of a seven-headed dragon setting the world ablaze and bowing in front of the snake goddess.

Guilty as charged, gritty ex-special ops, oriental mystical influence ? it?s all the stuff of comic book legends.

Bale was among the first character concepts I had, but got pushed out by Solar from the starter box line-up. The name was first. I love this word. In my private neverending contest for cool sounding English words, ?bale? is always in TOP 3.

Sgt. Bale, thanks to his military past, was meant to provide a strong universal fighter to the Blood Watch. His team mates, including the ones that are on the sketch board at the time do not excel in ranged combat and may give in to the emotions.

Bale is a stone cold supernatural hunter. Not only he sets the otherworldly freaks on fire with his burning fist, flaming bullets but also makes sure they stay dead.
See, all evil Supremes reduced to 0 Damage by Bale are Eliminated.

But if you think that?s all to him, you are wrong. What makes him special is the Dragon?s Champion rule ? the righteous soldier may announce the witch hunt, which, if successful, levels him up to Level 3!
I?m pretty sure you will appreciate having him in your team!

Another great pulp model! Bloodwatch really is my favorite faction to play right now. They're just so brutal and mean, that's the way I like to play. Plus I really dig the dark mystic origins of all the Supremes in Bloodwatch. Bale really does bring the pain in a big way. He does lack some of the synergy you see with Blood Rose and Hoodoo but he's a very valuable member of that team. Plus when you can get him leveled up in the middle of a fight... wow.

The mini really does the concept art justice.

I love Sgt. Bale. He's one of my favorite supremes.

I'd bet 1 ruble that Bale is a single-piece model.

Actually two. The lifted leg is separate but super easy to attach.

Great model, matches the concept perfectly.

My Pulp City "to do" list is growing faster than anything else at the moment :)

Keep it coming Morf.

Two questions arise from reading Sgt. Bale's background (well 3 or 4 actually):

1. Could Tank Red show up in the future? Are there plans for him (presumably a him) to do so? Tank Red is a Trinity Inc. founder and mentioned in Trail's fluff as well as that of Sgt. Bale.

2. Could Omega Occult rise as again as a 'new' allegiance - in other words are there plans along these lines already?

And the bonus question:
3. When will Sgt. Bale's story be uploaded to the Heroes and Villains section?

1. Yup, I plan to get them out as a 3-Supreme box.
2. Maybe ;)
3. Bonus - ha, I thought it will be a nice one. The H&V updates kill me - never time for them! I'm waiting for 2 slower days to get it done!
